CATCHING LIMITS mit Nadine Gerspacher

16. February 2019 - 17. February 2019

The first part of the workshop consists in exercises to awaken the body and generate awareness of the entire physical instrument. Attention is given to breath, joint articulation, muscle tone and stability to improve physical strength. Nadine invites students to participate in technical exercises, including floor work, games and challenging phrase composition. Students learn to activate and ground their centers in a way that allows them to experience optimal freedom in their movement. Partnering working,  guided improvisations and theatrical tasks highlight the class activities to support playfulness and creativity in movement and expression.

In the second part of the workshop Nadine´s process puts emphasis on creating characters and defining personalities through researching movement and its relation to everyday life. Working on reaction, instinct , adding emotions on abstract movements and always giving space for vulnerability, fragility but also strength and brutality. Storytelling is the central interest of her creations and exploring human relationships and experiences of humanity are fundamental to her work.

Nadine encourages spontaneity in the creation process. Her choreography draws on relevant and current themes. The play of contrasts and extremes are essential to her creation methods. Nadine fosters collaboration in the studio, offering the opportunity for dancers to be actively engaged in the creation process and to bring their own knowledge and experience into the process. She enjoys getting to know the dancers, creating with them and developing special roles for character work.
