CLASS

# contemporary & urban

The class will begin with a short exploration and giving time to arrive to a new space with new people. It starts with conditioning through stretches and repetitive sequences. A variety of principles of movements will be practiced across the floor in different combinations and speeds, based on technique of contemporary dance, capoeira and breakdance. The connection to the music, aswel to the space is very important in Johannas class. The class will end in a short choreography where the principles of the class can be explored. The endpoint of johannas class is a short sequence inspired by yoga to bring the dancer back and prepare the body to step out of the studio.
The class is in inspired by contemporary dance, break dance, capoeira and yoga.

 

ABOUT

Johanna studied contemporary and urban dance in Zürich. Right after she went to Vienna to dance for Ismael Ivo in the piece Biblioteca do Corpo. Johanna had a contract as a dancer in the Compangnie Neopost Foofwa in Geneva.  In Spring 2017 she graduated as a Yogateacher in Rishikesh, India in the style of Vinyasa Yoga. In July 2017 she had a artist Residency at Play Practice centre for contemporary dance in Bangalore where she created her first  piece swimming pool which was performed in Bangalore, Berlin and Basel. Johanna was invited as a Choreographer from the Goetheinstitute in Uganda, to lead an artist exchange programme in February 2018. The piece was presented at Kampala National Theatre and at Goethe Institute Kampala. Johanna is the winner of the Atelier Mondial scholarship residency in Manipur, India where she spent 4 months creating the piece Lairen Mathek with the renowned Choreographer Surjit Nongmeikapam, based on traditional martial arts of the north east Thang Tha. The piece was performed in Imphal, Bangalore and Delhi. She was also teaching professional contemporary trainings in different parts of India such as Tiruvannamalai, Auroville, Bangalore and Imphal. Johanna is collaborating with the Artist Marc Villanova with whom she created the piece SCHNUFE which premiered at Theatre Roxy in Basel in May 2018. She is currently working as a dancer in the Production Rehearsing Afrofuturism in collaboration with Theatre Roxy, director Patrick Gusset. Johanna will be choreographer in a dance/theater exchange project in Ramallah from Goethe Institute in the year 2020. Johanna is living in Basel and working in Switzerland and abroad.
