8. March 2021 - 11. March 2021
# Dynamic Movement Systems
This physical work session will be a uninterrupted guided session based on the principals David has been building up over many years. The sessions consist of a combination of alignment/stretching, strength and core work to prepare the body for the more movement oriented work introduced through looping sections of movement first at slower speeds then eventually building in speed and complexity over the course of the class. Finally we finish with a guided improvisation intended to cultivate and explore the physical state built up over the course of the class experience.
Active as a multi faceted performing artist based in Brussels since 1993. In a career spanning more than 30 years, David Hernandez has enjoyed collaborating as a choreographer, dancer, singer, performer, teacher and coach on projects spanning baroque opera to urban dance video. His artistic vision has shaped creations by iconic names in the European dance world like Meg Stuart / Damaged Goods and Rosas / Anne Teresa de Keersmaker as well as launched landmark dance initiatives such as the Crash Landing and Performance Hotel events, the PEP performance program, and multimedia installations with longtime creative partners LaborGras (Berlin), Collectif du Lion (BE) amongst many others.
David’s unique choreographic voice and detailed dance language has brought critically acclaimed work to stages across Europe for over two decades. Since 2015, he has deepened his choreographic research through a partnership with Cacao Bleu vzw under the banner dh+ / David Hernandez and Collaborators. Within this framework, he created productions For Movement’s Sake, Hullabaloo and Sketches on Scarlatti, Vox. These works were supported domestically by STUK (Leuven), Monty (Antwerp), Beursschouwburg (Brussels), and C-mine (Genk) and internationally by the Ballets de Lorraine, Scènes Vosges (Épinal), Into The Fields Festival (Bonn), National Center for Choreography Tours / Direction Thomas Lebrun, Mediterranean Dance Center San Vincenti, C-Takt Dommelhof and Cocoon Dance,… amongst many others,
In addition to creating choreographic work with a core group of committed dancers, he continues to influence new generations through his pedagogical activities as a faculty teacher at P.A.R.T.S and on commission for schools, companies and festivals such as Into The Fields (Bonn), DOCH (Stockholm), Skanes Dansteater, Susanne Linke Company (Trier) , Folkwang Tanzstudio (Essen) and Zagreb Dance Company, . Recent pieces such as Lonely Hunter, Other, …and my beloved, The Devil’s Garden and Passage won over audiences and critics to become important repertory pieces for the companies who commissioned them. Continued collaborations with Moya Michael, Coloured Swans, El Dorado, Michel Debrulle and Collectif du Lion, Labor Gras et al have been an important part of his artistic trajectory. Recently invited to make a co creation with Moya Michael for Xin Jing Dance Theater in Shanghai.
Having begun his artistic career as a singer and student in Opera, Jazz and Studio Music at the University of Miami in his home state of Florida, USA, David continues today to nurture his musicianship through the projects Rêve d’Elephant with Michel Debrulle and in the early music ensemble Graindelavoix.
With over 30 years of stage and arts experience under his belt, David continues to push the limits of his craft through his passion for multimedia, storytelling and composing richly poetic worlds on stage and off.
